To further respond to Thomas Power comments about lack of response or errors from LinkedIn. LinkedIn is clearly going scalability issues due to number of users and (I guess) their implementation of network updates, database and user links, since I have seen (and heard from several users) that you can accept an invitation but when you want to view their profile, you get the error message, user is not in your network.
But, if you click on invitations, click again on the user where you see status…
